BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
Islam urges the ummah to always respect and love one another, regardless of religion, race, position or lineage. The practice of respecting others should be inculcated from a young age, especially in showing respect and doing good deeds towards their parents or elderly. This was among the contents of the Friday Sermon entitled 'Respect and Love the Elderly.
The imam or prayer leader in the sermon said that His Majesty's government has given attention, care, and appreciation towards the elderly in the country. This is to ensure that their welfare are always taken care of, and to make them healthy and active citizens who can continue to contribute towards the development of the religion and the nation. The government is not solely responsible towards the elders. It is also the responsibility of all parties especially the family such as children or grandchildren. The elderly should not be treated as a burden, and their welfare should not be neglected. For the elderly, nothing is more precious than receiving love and attention from their children and grandchildren. Children should understand that there are times that they will face challenges or unpredictable behaviour while caring for the elderly. In facing such situations, the young ones must be patient in entertaining their needs, and should never show anger towards them as it would hurt their feelings. Remember, their contributions and sacrifices are too great and can never be repaid with wealth and even life.
