The Brunei Good Agricultural Practice

The Brunei GAP or Brunei Good Agricultural Practice is a recognised national standard, introduced for vegetable and fruit crops by the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood since 2014. The standard was established to enhance the potential of local farms in the provision vegetable and fruit products to be competitive in the South East Asia and international markets. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali spoke to RTB yesterday afternoon during his working visit to the Agriculture Development Site Farms and presentation of the Brunei GAP Accreditation Certificates.

 

 

 

Yang Berhormat and delegation first visited Bioprop Farm Sendirian Berhad located at the Lumapas Agriculture Development Area. The 1 point 7-6 hectare farm was established in 2015 by Awang Jamarshahzuin bin Haji Mohd Jaafar. The company is one of the companies using a fertigation crop system to produce various types of vegetables such as lettuce, cucumbers, aubergines and herbal plants.

 

 

 

The Brunei Good Agricultural Practice, Brunei GAP Accreditation Certificate was presented by the Minister of Primary resources and Tourism to the farm entrepreneur.

 

 

 

Yang Berhormat and delegation then took a closer look at EcoNadi Agrobiz Farm located at the Kampong Sinaut Agriculture Development Site in Tutong. The farm was operated by Awang Haji Mohd Ayub bin Haji Suhaili and Khairuddin bin Mohammad since November 2016. The farm is one of the Full-Time Commercial Pioneer Projects under the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood. The company also uses a fertigation crop system on a 4-hectare area for various types of vegetable crops and the main focus of the company is the production of chilli crops for the domestic market. The Department of Agriculture and Agrifood hoped that such efforts can be made as examples to other farmers to spark their interest in participating in the Brunei GAP Accreditation programme. Also in the delegation was Awang Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, Acting Permanent Secretary for Tourism at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.
