TUTONG

Tutong was the first district to welcome His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the Get-Together and Junjung Ziarah Ceremony with citizens and residents in conjunction with His Majesty's 72nd birthday. The traditional event was an eagerly-awaited occasion for citizens and residents in the Tutong district to meet their beloved Monarch. The ceremony was held yesterday morning at the Tutong Civic Centre Complex Field.

Thousands of students, who lined up the streets from the official residence of the Tutong District Officer to the Tutong Civic Centre Complex while waving miniature national flags, demonstrated their solidarity and loyalty in enlivening the celebration. The atmosphere turned more colourful as students carrying flowers accompanied with the beating of hadrah, signalled His Majesty's arrival.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs as Chairman of the National Committee for His Majesty's 72nd Birthday Celebration; and Awang Shamsul Bahrin bin Haji Mohd Hussain, Tutong District Officer.

Also in attendance were:

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince;

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen;

- His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; and

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah, as well as other members of the Royal family.

Three cheers of 'Daulat Kebawah Duli Tuan Patik' were led by Mukim Penghulus, village chiefs, heads of longhouses, members of Mukim and Village Consultative Councils as well as officers and staff from the government and private sectors in the Tutong District.

The Tutong District Officer as the representative of the Tutong District citizens and residents in his welcoming speech, among other matters gave thanks for His Majesty's presence at the get-together and junjung ziarah ceremony with the citizens and residents in the Tutong district.

The 'Raja Unggul, Negara Gemilang' performance involved more than 270 participants comprising civil servants, primary and secondary school students, individuals from various levels of the society, Mukim and Village Consultative Councils, as well as youth and volunteers in the Tutong District. The performance, which combined singing, movements and dance, depicts the strength and maturity of the people of Brunei Darussalam in together moving all forms of development agenda which is achieved through a transition and change in attitude to be more productive and innovative.

Meanwhile, the 'Generasi Harapan' performance, which combined the younger generation and youths, was a casual and leisurely-form of performance displayed through singing and dance. The performance displayed the personalities and way of life of an active generation towards creating a generation of hope for the country.

The 'Belia Untuk Negara' performance, meanwhile, was based on combat movements. The performance reflected youths who have a role to play as movers, and who are prepared to realise all forms of development for the country. A tug-of-war match, meanwhile, was symbolic of the strong sense of belonging among the youths.

'Semarak Menjunjung Kasih', which was the climax of the performances, displayed the nation's culture and heritage which is continuously maintained in spite of all the developments achieved by the country. The martial arts performance of silat and the traditional boat race, showed the spirits of the Bruneian people, who are active, fit and highly spirited under the leadership of a sovereign monarch. The traditional zapin dance performance, meanwhile, depicts the undivided love of the people towards the monarch.

At the end of the ceremony, His Majesty received junjung ziarah from the participants and committee members as a show of His Majesty's appreciation for their contributions in making the performance a success. The ceremony, held in conjunction with His Majesty's birthday, is further proof of the solidarity that exists among the citizens and residents in the country in general, and in the Tutong district in particular, who all live in peace under the leadership of a ruler who is also widely known as the people's monarch.
