His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam paid their respects to the remains of Al-Marhumah Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam at Balai Penghadapan Bukit Kayangan on Wednesday.
Al-Marhumah Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah is the sister of Her Majesty and wife of His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.
Also in attendance were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and wife; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Anisha Rosnah binti Adam; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
His Majesty’s daughters – Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Saadatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah were also in attendance.
Prior to leaving for the Royal Mausoleum, a Solat Jenazah was performed, led by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.
Their Majesties then departed to the Royal Mausoleum for the funeral ceremony. Also in attendance were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, and other members of the royal family.
Also present at the ceremony were Yang Amat Mulia Dr Tengku Muhammad Fa-iz Petra ibni Al Marhum Sultan Ismail Petra and wife.
At the ceremony, Tahlil and Doa Tahlil was led by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar while the Talqin was recited by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Awang Haji Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Awang Haji Othman.
Their Majesties then pour the Air Asah-asahan (scented water) on the tomb of Al-Marhumah followed by other members of the royal family.
Al-Marhumah Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah passed away on Tuesday, 24 Rabiulakhir 1448 Hijrah, corresponding to October 6, 2026, at 5.43pm.
During her lifetime, Al-Marhumah was bestowed with several state decorations and honorary medals, including the Darjah Kerabat Laila Utama Yang Amat Dihormati (D.K.), Darjah Paduka Seri Laila Jasa Yang Amat Berjasa Darjah Kedua (D.S.L.J.) and Pingat Hassanal Bolkiah Sultan (P.H.B.S.).
Al-Marhumah married His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah on July 9, 1970, and was blessed with 10 children.
By command of His Majesty, the national flag was lowered to quarter-mast for one day on Wednesday, as a mark of mourning.
Meanwhile, the Naubat will be closed for 14 days beginning 24 Rabiulakhir 1448 Hijrah corresponding to October 6, 2026.
