'Operasi Panyap'

An 'Operasi Panyap' was carried out by the Department of Immigration and National Registration through the Law Enforcement Division targeting two separate locations.

 

During the operation at a house in Mukim Berakas 'B' and a restaurant in Mukim Gadong, 18 foreigners were inspected and two of them were detained for further investigation after being found to be working using a visit pass.

 

The operation also tergeted a worker's house in Mukim Kuala Belait.  Six foreigners were inspected and four of them were detained and taken to the Law Enforcement Division for further investigation for overstaying in the country after their immigration passes had expired.  Two of them also failed to produce valid documents.

 

During the operation at Mukim Seria area together with enforcement agencies of the Kuala Belait Branch, a foreigner was detained and taken to the Law Enforcement Division for the purpose of verifying the identification documents.  The operation also found six offences of possessing contraband items and a case of cigarettes that were undeclared.

 

Meanwhile, 2 prosecution sessions were conducted under the Immigration Act, Chapter 17.  Mohamad Ripon Hossain, a Bangladeshi was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and 3 strokes of the cane after pleading guilty for overstaying in the country after his immigration pass has expired. And, a Malaysian man, Amran bin Osman pleaded guilty to the offence of entering and residing in the country without a valid Immigration Pass.  The individual was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment and a fine of $1,000 in lieu of whipping. He failed to pay the fine and was sentenced to an additional one month imprisonment, making it a 4 months of imprisonment.
