Themed ''Sustaining Our Oceans: Innovation, Governance and Resilience for a Blue Future'', the Launching Ceremony of the Brunei Darussalam Expedition in conjunction with the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2026 was held on 04th April morning. The expedition was organised by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism in collaboration with the Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) and Poni Group Sendirian Berhad.
The launch was officiated by Dayang Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of coral reefs as the foundation for marine biodiversity, food security and productivity of the country's fisheries sector.
The expedition is seen as an important platform to promote scientific collaboration, knowledge exchange and capacity building in the field of marine science. Held until 6th May, the expedition focuses on a comprehensive study of the health and sustainability of marine ecosystems, particularly coral reefs in the waters of Pulau Pelong-Pelongan.
