His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, left for the Republic of the Philippines to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Summit which will be held from 7th to 8th May 2026 in Cebu City. Prior to leaving Istana Nurul Iman, Doa Selamat was recited by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr.) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
Present at His Majesty the Sultan's Flight Hangar in Rimba to bid farewell to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam were members of the Royal Family. Also present were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-pengiran Cheteria; the Speaker of the Legislative Council; Cabinet Ministers; Members of the Privy Council; Deputy Ministers; the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; and Acting Commissioner of Police of the Royal Brunei Police Force as well as the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di- Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam arrived in the Republic of the Philippines to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Summit. Upon arrival at BGEN Benito Ebuen Air Base, Cebu, His Majesty was welcomed by The Honorable Rexlon T. Gatchalian, Secretary of Social Welfare and Developments, Republic of the Phillipines; Ms. Pamela S. Baricuatro, Governor of Cebu; Ma. Cynthia Chan, Mayor of Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu; Ms. Reichel Quinones, Philippines Presidential Chief of Protocol; and Mr. Renato N. Dueñas Jr., Relations Officer. The Philippines, as Chair of ASEAN this year, with the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together" reflects its commitment to leading ASEAN with unity, clarity, and purpose that aims to build a more resilient and deeply connected Southeast Asia, prioritising meaningful, people-centered progress.
