His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Minister At The Prime Minister's Office And Chairman Of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Committee of Governors, in a sabda emphasised that a strong community does not only depend on economic development, but arises from love, concern, and the spirit of mutual support. In a sabda at the Opening Ceremony of International Conference on Community Outreach and People Empowerment 2026, His Royal Highness stressed that this is the essence of Community Service, a noble value that builds individuals and the well-being of the nation. It is not just a part-time activity, but a culture of life that instills a sense of responsibility towards fellow human beings.
The inaugural conference was jointly organised by Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNISSA) and Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in collaboration with Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia and Universiti Al-Quran Al-Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah Pahang. The ceremony took place at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar, Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara AS CHAIRMAN OF THE YAYASAN BOARD OF DIRECTORS; Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Coordinating Minister for National Security, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence as Member Of The Yayasan Board Of Directors; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office for Civil Service Governance as Deputy Chairman of the Yayasan Board of Directors; Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Minister of Religious Affairs AND Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Deputy Minister Of Education as Members of the Yayasan Board of Directors; AND Doctor Awang Haji Arman bin Haji Asmad, Acting Rector of UNISSA as Chairman of the Conference Steering Committee.
The recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and doa selamat were led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar.
The Acting Rector of UNISSA in his welcoming speech, among other things, touched on the conference's theme, “Memperkasa Khidmat Masyarakat ke Arah Pembangunan Ummah Lestari".
In a sabda, His Royal Highness also emphasised that the strength of community can be seen when neighbours help each other, youth are active in charity work, and companies recontribute to the local community.
Doctor Dayang Hajah Ummi Fa'izah binti Haji Abdul Rahman, Assistant Professor, Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language, UNISSA, in her keynote paper presentation, among other things, touched on the importance of community empowerment.
Doa Selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
His Royal Highness proceeded to view an exhibition highlighting community service activities.
The two-day conference is hoped to be a platform for sharing ideas and best practices in the fields of volunteerism, humanitarianism and community development.
