The Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD), through its Law Enforcement Division in the Brunei-Muara District, has intensified its nationwide Operasi Kakas JIPK 2026, resulting in the detention of 11 foreign nationals for alleged immigration offences.

According to the department, the operations were carried out at several locations in Mukim Sengkurong, Mukim Kilanas and Mukim Labi as part of ongoing efforts to curb immigration-related offences in the Sultanate.

During Operasi Kakas 81/2026, enforcement officers inspected five locations comprising houses and rented rooms in Mukim Sengkurong.

A total of 22 foreign nationals were inspected, with nine detained for further investigation.

Eight of those detained are suspected of overstaying their immigration passes, an offence under Regulation 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17.

One of the eight is also suspected of breaching Regulation 15(2) of the Immigration Regulations, Chapter 17, by working for an employer other than the one stated in the individual’s immigration pass.

Another foreign national was detained after failing to produce original identification documents during the inspection.

Meanwhile, Operasi Kakas 82/2026 targeted a rented room in Mukim Kilanas, where one foreign national was detained for allegedly re-entering Brunei Darussalam after having been lawfully deported, contrary to Section 36 of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17.

The individual is also suspected of entering and remaining in the country without a valid immigration pass under Section 6(1)(c) of the same Act.

Following investigations, the case proceeded to prosecution.

The court sentenced Ahad Bin Tossen, a 68-year-old Malaysian man, after he pleaded guilty to re-entering Brunei after lawful deportation, entering the country through a route other than a designated immigration control post under Section 5(1) of the Immigration Act, and entering and remaining in the country without a valid immigration pass under Section 6(1)(c).

He was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment and fined BND2,000 in lieu of caning. After failing to pay the fine, he received an additional two months’ imprisonment, bringing his total sentence to one year and two months.

The sentence took effect on August 11.

In Operasi Kakas 84/2026, enforcement officers inspected two foreign nationals in the surrounding area of Mukim Labi.

One individual was detained for allegedly overstaying after the expiry of the person’s immigration pass, in contravention of Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17.

The Immigration and National Registration Department reiterated its commitment to conducting regular enforcement operations to ensure compliance with immigration laws and reminded employers, property owners and members of the public to cooperate with the authorities in safeguarding the country’s immigration system.
