Immigration Offences

​The Department of Immigration and National Registration reminded the public especially foreigners that overstaying in this country is an offence and if found guilty can lead to imprisonment and whipping. The reminder was made after THREE foreigners were sentenced to imprisonment for overstaying in the country, after their Immigration Passes have expired.

 

JOANNE BAYSA UMIPIG, a 56-year-old female from the Philippines was sentenced to 9 months imprisonment, and a one thousand dollar fine in lieu of whipping. However, the individual failed to pay the fine, and was given an additional one month imprisonment, resulting in 10 months imprisonment in total. Meanwhile, 34-year-old male MD OASIM MIA from Bangladesh pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment and 3 whippings. And, Indonesian male AHMAD FAUZI, aged 43, also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and 3 whippings.
