A total of 189 people embraced Islam in Brunei Darussalam from January to September 10 this year, with 98 residing in Brunei-Muara District.
Among the new converts was 24-year-old Murut man Danish Razean bin Abas, who embraced Islam during a ceremony at the Conference Hall of the Islamic Dakwah Centre in Pulaie on Friday.
The ceremony was attended by Guest of Honour Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Dr Haji Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah, before Danish Razean recited the Two Kalimah Syahadah in the presence of officers from the Dakwah Development Division (Conversion), Islamic Dakwah Centre.
Following his conversion, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces member adopted the Muslim name Muhammad Danish Razean bin Abas.
Speaking about his journey towards Islam, Muhammad Danish Razean said he was raised as a Christian but was introduced to Islam at a young age while attending religious school.
“I learned the basics of Islam, which made me curious to learn more about the religion,” he said.
He said his decision to embrace Islam was also supported by Muslim relatives who taught him about the faith and helped him develop a deeper understanding of its teachings.
Describing Islam as a noble religion, he said he found its teachings accessible to learn and was particularly interested in its rich history.
He expressed hope to continue improving himself and deepen his knowledge of Islam as a new Muslim.
Meanwhile, his mother said the family accepted his decision with an open heart.
She said the decision was not entirely unexpected, as he had been exposed to religious education from a young age and had developed friendships with Muslims who helped familiarise him with Islam.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a token of appreciation from the Islamic Dakwah Centre to Muhammad Danish Razean by the Guest of Honour, followed by a Dikir Marhaban performance and Doa Selamat.
