19th AMMTC and Related Meetings

Brunei Darussalam's efforts in eradicating and tackling transnational criminal activities including Trafficking in Persons and People Smuggling as well as Cybercrime and Online Scams including Artificial Intelligence, A.I, were shared by the Deputy Minister for Security and Law at the Prime Minister's Office at the Plenary Session of the 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime and Related Meetings, AMMTC. The meeting took place recently in Melaka, Malaysia. Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Sufian bin Haji Sabtu who led the country's delegation also shared on the trend of cybercrime particularly online scams faced by Brunei Darussalam. He also highlighted the growing use of technologies such as A.I as a modus operandi by cyber criminals.

 

The AMMTC and Related Meetings is a significant annual platform for ASEAN Ministers responsible for transnational crime issues to discuss the current trends in criminal activities and the regional security situation. The meeting also serves as a forum for the exchange of views on strategic measures and best practices in addressing the increasingly complex issues of transnational crimes. The meeting was preceded by the Preparatory SOMTC meetings.

 

Also held were consultations with ASEAN Dialogue Partners. At the consultations, the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office reiterated Brunei Darussalam's commitment and continuous support to strengthen cooperation with the ASEAN Dialogue Partners in order to protect, serve and preserve peace, stability of ASEAN and beyond. The meeting also adopted and endorsed 13 key documents. The 19th AMMTC and Related Meetings attended by Ministers, Head of Delegations as well as Senior Officials from ASEAN Member States, the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and ASEAN Dialogue Partners. The meeting was also attended by His Excellency Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary General of ASEAN.
