A local citizen was charged in the Tutong Magistrate's Court under the Excise Order 2006. JOHARI BIN JARAIE, 47 years old, was found guilty of possessing 6 cartons and 51 packets of cigarettes of various brands without a valid permit.
The accused was arrested by officers of the Law Enforcement Division, Royal Customs and Excise Department, Kuala Belait Branch at a house in the Kampung Kebia, Tutong area on 28th October 2024. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of BND10,180 or 10 months imprisonment in default.
All contraband, namely cigarettes, were seized to be handed over to the Government to be destroyed.
