Adulterated Product

Laboratory testing conducted by the Health Sciences Authority, HSA, Singapore, found a herbal product, HW Beauty Serbuk Campuran Kurma, Madu dan Limau Kasturi, to be adulterated with undeclared, scheduled poisons, listed under the Poisons Act, which were not declared on the product label. The Ministry of Health informed the public not to purchase or consume the product following a safety alert issued by the HSA, Singapore and the ASEAN Post-Marketing Alert System.

The substances detected included two potent steroids, namely dexamethasone and prednisolone and an anti-inflammatory painkiller, diclofenac. These substances are classified as medicines that should only be used under the advice and supervision of licensed healthcare professionals such as doctors. The unsupervised use of these substances can pose serious health risks, especially when taken over a prolonged period. The Ministry of Health has not issued any approval for the importation or sale of the product.

Following this safety alert, the product is not allowed to be imported or sold in Brunei Darussalam. The Ministry of Health called upon the public for their cooperation to report if this product is still being marketed in the country or any other suspicious products to the Compliance and Licensing Section, Department of Pharmaceutical Services.
