300 runners light up Kuala Belait streets

Around 300 runners from across the country gathered in the Belait District for the KB Night Run, lighting up the streets of Kuala Belait, at Jalan Pretty on October 10.

It featured a 3km Fun Run and a 10km competitive race, promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging greater participation in running.

The run was also held in conjunction with the 80th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Pekan Kuala Belait ‘B’ Village Head Mohammad Sufrizal bin Haji Hamdan said the 10km competitive race was divided into four categories: men’s open, women’s open, men’s veteran and women’s veteran. The 3km Fun Run, meanwhile, was open to participants of all ages.

“The run aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle through running and to introduce more recreational and sporting locations in the Belait District,” he added.

Mohammad Sufrizal said the car park along Jalan Pretty in Kuala Belait town was chosen as the venue for its strategic location, with nearby shops and parking facilities making it convenient for participants.

“In terms of safety and race management, the running and cycling routes were clearly marked and monitored by marshals,” he noted, adding that participants were required to use the provided blinker lights and wear reflective clothing or bright coloured attire to improve visibility.

Acting Chairman of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board Amirul Shukri bin Haji Hafneh flagged off the run, accompanied by penghulus and village heads from across Belait District. The event was co-organised by the Village Consultative Council of Pekan Kuala Belait ‘B’ and the Belait District Office.
