A flight to remember

114 children experience the joy of flight

Some 114 children aged seven to 15 registered under the Department of Community Development (JAPEM) yesterday enjoyed a memorable flight experience over Brunei Darussalam aboard a chartered aircraft thanks to Freme Travel Services Sdn Bhd. For many of the children, this was their first-ever experience travelling on board an aircraft.

Organised by Freme Travel Services Sdn Bhd in conjunction with its 55th anniversary, marking more than five decades of service in Brunei Darussalam’s travel and tourism industry, ‘A Flight to Remember’ is a special corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at providing children with a meaningful and memorable experience.

The programme was organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), JAPEM, Royal Brunei Airlines and Royal Brunei Catering.

The initiative reflects Freme Travel’s commitment to giving back to the local community as part of its 55th anniversary celebrations, with the company seeking to share this milestone with children in the community.

‘A Flight to Remember’ was created to give the children an opportunity to experience something new, exciting and meaningful.

The programme also embodies Freme Travel’s belief that travel is not only about discovering new places, but also about creating lasting memories, bringing people together and opening doors to new experiences.

‘A Flight to Remember’ event started off with a welcoming ceremony at Brunei International Airport attended by Acting Director of JAPEM Fauziah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, the guest of honour, and Executive Director of Freme Travel Services Sdn Bhd Pengiran Dato Paduka Osman bin Pengiran Haji Patra as well as Freme Travel Services Managing Director Michael Lee and officials. Following the welcoming ceremony and remarks, the children experienced the various stages of air travel, including airport check-in, departure formalities, boarding the aircraft, take-off and flying over Brunei Darussalam’s airspace. Snacks were provided for the children before departure and the children received a lunch meal upon arrival.

The chartered flight departed from Brunei International Airport at 10am and landed safely around 11am.

Beyond the flight itself, the programme was designed to give the children an experience that they could cherish and remember for years to come.

Twelve-year-old Alya Darwishah Badrisyia binti Mohd Nazmi said the experience was both exciting and enjoyable. “It was really fun being on board and getting to experience a flight around Brunei Darussalam. I would like to thank Freme Travel for giving me the opportunity to be part of this special flight.”

Meanwhile, seven-year-old Ahnaf Aisy Ukael bin Mohd Alimi, who experienced flying for the first time, expressed his happiness at being part of the programme.

“I am really happy to have the opportunity to fly for the first time today. I would like to thank Freme Travel for this wonderful and memorable experience.”

Freme Travel was established in 1971 and has been part of Brunei Darussalam’s travel and tourism industry for 55 years.
