Sekolah Ugama Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah yesterday celebrated 104 Darjah VI students comprising 59 boys and 45 girls at its Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony at Munawwarah Hall, Setia Point, Berakas.
Among the participants honoured at the ceremony were Pengiran Muhammad Syafiq Mubarak bin Pengiran Haji Mohamad Ezul, grandson of Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Nor’ain; and Pengiran Muhammad Abdul Haadee Mubasheer bin Pengiran Anak Abdul Badee’, grandson of Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Nasibah. Syariah High Court Judge of State Judiciary Department, Prime Minister’s Office Haji Hassan bin Haji Metali was the guest of honour, accompanied by spouse Hajah Harinawati binti Awang Haji Tumar.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by the guest of honour, followed by the recitation of selected surahs by the Khatam participants, the Takhtim recitation, and the Khatam prayer.
The programme continued with a Dikir performance, followed by the presentation of certificates to the Khatam participants by the guest of honour, and concluded with Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam. The Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony at religious schools is a significant tradition within the country’s Islamic education system. It not only marks the achievement of Year VI students in completing the recitation of all 30 juz of Al-Quran, but also serves as a recognition of their dedication and perseverance in deepening their understanding and appreciation of Islamic teachings.
The ceremony also provides an opportunity for participants to draw closer to Al-Quran, through which participants of the Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony are rewarded with blessings, mercy, and divine grace from Allah the Almighty. – James Kon
