An artificial intelligence (AI) upskilling training programme for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) was held on September 1, 2026 at Intisar Hall, Belait District Office, drawing 44 attendees comprising representatives from various micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) across the Belait District.
The training was hosted by the Belait District Office and co-organised by Revitalise Belait and CoreJana Solutions Sdn Bhd, bringing together government, community and private sector partners in support of Belait’s MSME owners.
The session was implemented by Big BWN Project and forms part of the AIM ASEAN Programme (AI for MSME Advancement in ASEAN), a regional initiative supported by the ASEAN Foundation, Google.org, AVPN, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Further local support and partnerships are from BEBD, Brunei Innovation Lab and Digital Brunei.
Speaking at the event, Founder of Big BWN Project Noor Hafizah binti Haji Rashid explained that “this training session is part of the AIM ASEAN Programme, or AI for MSME Advancement. Supported by the ASEAN Foundation, Google.org, AVPN, and the Asian Development Bank, this regional initiative is designed to demystify artificial intelligence for our local business community”. She added that through hands-on, practical training, the programme aims to equip entrepreneurs, especially those at the grassroots level, with the basic skills to use AI safely and effectively to boost productivity, streamline operations, and scale their businesses today. Meanwhile, Sector Lead for Digital Knowledge and Economy at Revitalise Belait and Director of CoreJana Solutions Malai Masrhiem highlighted the important role of MSMEs in the local economy, noting that equipping them with practical AI skills was a natural next step in supporting the community.
“This programme gives business owners real, usable tools to work smarter, serve their customers better, and stay competitive. This also reflects the strong partnership between government, community and industry that Belait District needs to keep moving forward.”
