Key initiatives under the Tourism Industry Roadmap 2024–2035, such as building a sustainable and inclusive tourism industry; enhancing infrastructure and connectivity and developing; and skilled tourism workforce were among the matters shared by the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism at the ASEAN Tourism Ministers' Retreat. It was held recently in Melaka, Malaysia. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin who led the Brunei Darussalam delegation to the retreat also highlighted Brunei Darussalam's coral and reef conservation, forest rehabilitation, and mangrove restoration under the Brunei Greening Programme. This is to support biodiversity protection and promote eco-friendly measures for climate resilience.
Yang Berhormat also emphasised measures to strengthen connectivity, such as streamlining cross-border travel. Complementing these efforts, Brunei Darussalam is harnessing online digital platforms to enhance promotion and positioning, while supporting ASEAN's image as a united, multi-country destination.
The Retreat focused on building a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient sector while enhancing ASEAN's global competitiveness. The Ministers also exchanged insights to strengthen regional cooperation on sustainable tourism development and considered policy directions and recommendations to boost international visitor arrivals to ASEAN.
The Retreat reaffirmed ASEAN's collective commitment to sustainable tourism development, stronger regional connectivity, and reinforcing the region's image as a safe, welcoming, and integrated global destination.
