70-year-old athlete wins Hyrox competition in Beijing
At 70-years, Liew Thiam Kai proved that age is no barrier to sporting excellence, securing first place in his age category at HYROX Beijing 2026 with a finishing time of one hour, 47 minutes and nine seconds (1:47:09).
The achievement marks another outstanding performance for the Bruneian athlete, who also claimed first place in his age category at HYROX Bangkok 2026 in August.
Liew continues to train, compete and push his limits on the international stage. His performances in Bangkok and Beijing demonstrate not only his physical fitness, but also the discipline, determination and commitment required to compete against athletes in his age group from around the world.
Liew’s journey is a reminder that staying active and pursuing new challenges can continue at every stage of life.
Through his actions, Liew’s message is that “age is not a limitation – it is simply another number.”
