Ageing well

Around 200 senior citizens from across all districts yesterday gathered for the Riadahmas Event held in conjunction with the International Day of Older Persons 2026 at the VIP Parking Area, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

The event was organised to promote the concept of Successful Ageing by encouraging older persons to remain active, healthy, and productive members of the society.

The participants comprised members of the WARGAMAS Association, Senior Citizens Activity Centres from all districts, non-governmental organisations, and strategic partners.

WARGAMAS Association President Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Mohd Don in his welcoming remarks highlighted, “The Riadahmas programme is an important health platform for all senior citizens in the country to promote a healthy lifestyle.”

He added, “The programme is also one of the efforts in support of the Government’s Senior Citizens Action Plan 2025–2030: Towards Successful Ageing led by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports to empower the well being of senior citizens in line with Brunei Vision 2035.”

He said, “We as senior citizens need to ensure that older people remain healthy, with sharp minds and active and physically fit bodies.”

The event saw a silat demonstration by the WARGAMAS Association Performance Group led by Silat Instructor Pengiran Haji Mohd Yusof bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Daud.

This was followed by a group light exercise session as a warm-up activity led by Senior Assistant Professor at the Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam Dr Sharimawati binti Haji Sharbini.
