Air quality moderate across Brunei

Air quality across all four districts remained moderate as of 9am Mondau, with Temburong recording the highest Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading at 72.

According to the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), Brunei-Muara recorded a PSI of 63, followed by Tutong at 66 and Belait at 57.

A PSI reading of 51 to 100 indicates moderate air quality, while readings of 101 to 200 are classified as unhealthy.

Since September 1, JASTRe has incorporated fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations into Brunei Darussalam’s PSI reporting.

The World Health Organization defines PM2.5 as fine particulate matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres. These particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, potentially affecting the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

JASTRe continues to monitor air quality nationwide and will issue PSI updates five times daily at 7am, 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm during the hazy period.
