Air quality moderate in Belait and Tutong

Air quality in Belait and Tutong was moderate Tuesday morning, while Brunei-Muara and Temburong recorded good readings, according to the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe).

At 9am, Belait recorded a Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading of 51, while Tutong registered 54. Brunei-Muara recorded 38 and Temburong 31.

A PSI reading below 50 is classified as good, while readings between 51 and 100 are considered moderate. Readings between 101 and 200 are unhealthy, 201 and 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.

JASTRe, under the Ministry of Development, said air quality reporting has incorporated fine particulate matter (PM2.5) into the PSI since September 1.

PM2.5 refers to fine particles less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter. According to the World Health Organization, these particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, potentially affecting cardiovascular and respiratory health.

JASTRe will continue monitoring air quality nationwide and issue PSI updates at 7am, 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm during the hazy period.
