Air quality moderate in two districts

Air quality moderate in two districts » Borneo Bulletin Online

Air quality in Belait and Tutong was moderate on Monday morning, while Brunei-Muara and Temburong recorded good readings, according to the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe).

At 9am, Belait recorded a Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading of 64, followed by Tutong at 60.

Brunei-Muara recorded a PSI of 40, while Temburong had the lowest reading at 25. Both districts were classified as having good air quality.

JASTRe, under the Ministry of Development, said air quality reporting has incorporated fine particulate matter (PM2.5) into the PSI since September 1.

PM2.5 refers to fine particles with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres. According to the World Health Organization, these particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, potentially affecting cardiovascular and respiratory health.

During the hazy period, JASTRe provides PSI updates five times daily at 7am, 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm.

A PSI reading below 50 indicates good air quality, while readings between 51 and 100 are classified as moderate. Readings of 101 to 200 are unhealthy, 201 to 300 are very unhealthy, and above 300 are hazardous.
