Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) has updated its Alert List, urging the public to deal only with licensed financial institutions and remain cautious of unregulated financial services.
The latest addition is Goldpecker Community/HF Markets/HFM, which was listed in connection with investment-related activities.
The Alert List identifies companies and individuals that are not licensed, authorised or regulated by BDCB. It aims to prevent the public from being misled into believing that listed entities are approved financial service providers.
BDCB said inclusion on the list does not prejudice any further assessment of the activities concerned.
The central bank warned that people dealing with unlicensed or unregulated providers would not receive protection under its regulatory framework. Financial services requiring a BDCB licence include remittance, money changing, money lending and pawnbroking.
It also urged the public to remain vigilant against individuals or entities claiming to represent, be affiliated with or act on behalf of BDCB. Such claims may involve the unauthorised use of its name, logo or official identity to solicit funds, personal information or participation in financial schemes.
The updated Alert List and information on identifying financial scams are available on the BDCB website. The public can also follow its Instagram account, @centralbank.brunei, for information on the risks of dealing with unlicensed financial entities.
BDCB said it would continue monitoring suspicious or unlicensed financial activities to safeguard Brunei Darussalam’s financial system and protect financial consumers.
