BND28,570 fine after vape products found at Brunei airport

A Philippine national was fined BND28,570 after pleading guilty to possessing vape juice and vape devices without a valid permit.

John Christopher Castro was charged before Magistrate Hajah Normazdina binti Haji Md Maksub at the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrates’ Court on October 5.

Castro was found in possession of 38 bottles of vape juice flavouring and three vape devices at the passenger arrivals section of Brunei International Airport on October 3 at around 1.15am.

The offence was prosecuted by an officer from the Royal Customs and Excise Department under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006, for possessing the items without a valid licence or permit.

The court imposed a fine of BND28,570, with a 13-month prison term in default of payment.

The seized vape devices and vape juice were ordered forfeited to the government for disposal.
