Belait haze level reaches moderate as PSI rises

Belait recorded a moderate air quality reading Tuesday afternoon as haze conditions remained mostly within the good range across the country, according to the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe).

At 11am, all four districts recorded good air quality, with PSI readings of 20 in Brunei-Muara, 26 in Belait, 32 in Temburong and 20 in Tutong.

By 2pm, Belait’s PSI had risen to 51, entering the moderate range, while Brunei-Muara stood at 47, Temburong at 25 and Tutong at 23.

The latest reading at 4pm showed further increases in Brunei-Muara and Belait, with PSI readings of 56 and 52, respectively. Temburong and Tutong remained in the good range at 23 and 21.

A PSI reading below 50 is classified as good, while readings between 51 and 100 are considered moderate.

JASTRe said air quality reporting has been enhanced since September 1 through the incorporation of PM2.5 concentrations into the PSI. PM2.5 refers to fine particulate matter measuring less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter, which can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream.

The department will continue monitoring air quality and issue PSI updates five times daily at 7am, 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm during the hazy period.
