Belait launches 80km virtual challenge » Borneo Bulletin Online
Residents across Belait District gathered along Jalan Sultan, Kuala Belait on Saturday evening to take part in the Dirgahayu 80km Virtual Walk & Run, held in conjunction with the 80th Birthday Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad officiating the event, organised by the Village Consultative Council of Kampong Pandan ‘C’, underscored the importance of promoting healthy living, community engagement and patriotism.
The event opened with a 5km Fun Run, welcoming participants of all ages and fitness levels.
The campaign’s main highlight is the 80km Virtual Challenge, held from August 1 to 30, where participants are challenged to complete a cumulative distance of 80 kilometres by walking or running at their own pace, anytime and anywhere throughout the month.
Village Head of Kampong Pandan ‘C’ Abdul Faiz Ariffin bin Haji Mohammad explained that participants must submit their recorded distances using fitness tracking applications.
“Participants may also submit their completed records via WhatsApp,” he said, hoping the initiative can inspire more Bruneians to embrace an active lifestyle.
“Whether walking with family, running with friends, or completing the challenge individually, every kilometre represents unity, perseverance, and love for the country,” he added. –
