Blood drive draws 82 donors

A total of 82 donors took part in a blood donation campaign organised by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department in collaboration with the Blood Donation Centre of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital yesterday.

For two regular blood donors, the decision to donate is driven by different motivations, but both share the same commitment to helping others and supporting the blood supply at the RIPAS Blood Bank.

Muhammad Fadil Ikhwan bin Muhammad Syahdun, 32, from Kampong Kilanas, has donated blood nine times, having started during his years at the Sixth Form Centre after a friend introduced him to the RIPAS Blood Donation Centre.

Working at a private company, he said he continued donating blood approximately every two months, citing his high blood count as one of his reasons for donating, alongside his enjoyment of the experience.

“Blood donation is good for maintaining health. It has become a practice for me, and personally, I feel lighter after each donation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Noramalina Hafizan binti Haji Mohd Hassan, 26, an officer at the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, has also donated blood approximately nine times.

She first donated at the RIPAS Hospital Blood Donation Centre while studying at a university. Initially encouraged by friends, she decided to make blood donation a more regular practice.

“I thought I would give it a try because I know it can help people, after all every donation counts in helping save lives,” she said. She added that donating blood was also a way to help replenish the blood bank supply at RIPAS Hospital, while responding to the Ministry of Health’s call for the public to come forward and help restock the blood bank.

Her experience reflects how a simple invitation from friends can lead to a lasting habit of giving back to the community.

The campaign held in conjunction with the 56th anniversary of the renaming of Brunei Town to Bandar Seri Begawan in 2026, was held at Common Ground, Block C, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital.
