Meanwhile, MUIB and MUIS signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the recognition of halal certification and areas of cooperation to strengthen collaboration in the halal sector. Signing the MoU on behalf of MUIB was Acting Secretary of MUIB Pengiran Ahmad Faris Ramadhani bin Pengiran Haji Sellahuddin, while MUIS was represented by its Chief Executive Kadir Maideen.

The signing was witnessed by Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohammad Tashim and Zaqy Mohamad. Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Dr Awang Haji Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Awang Haji Ahmad was also present.

The MoU reflects both parties’ commitment to strengthening cooperation in the halal sector, including the exchange of regulatory standards, technical requirements, auditing systems and relevant specifications for halal certification and labelling.

Cooperation will also cover the sharing of experiences and knowledge, as well as capacity-building in technology, human resources, infrastructure facilities, and research and development for halal products.

The agreement is expected to create further opportunities for halal product trade between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, particularly for local businesses, while strengthening existing ties and cooperation between the two countries. – Lyna Mohamad
