A total of 29 students from Tokyo Metropolitan Minami-Tama School and Tokyo Metropolitan Hakuo High School, Japan, took part in an educational visit and student exchange programme at Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School (SM SMJA) on Thursday, fostering cross-cultural understanding and educational collaboration between Brunei Darussalam and Japan.
The visiting delegation was welcomed by SM SMJA Principal Hajah Aisah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, together with the school’s teachers and students.
The programme aimed to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between students from Brunei Darussalam and Japan, while enhancing cooperation in education and culture through direct interaction between participants from both countries.
SM SMJA was selected as the host school due to its teaching staff’s proficiency in the Japanese language and its active Japanese Language Club as well as the school also has extensive experience in organising international collaborative programmes and activities.
Throughout the visit, the students participated in a variety of activities designed to encourage cultural exchange and interaction.
The programme began with welcoming remarks by the principal, followed by a speech from the representative of the Japanese delegation.
The visitors also toured the school to learn about its facilities and learning environment. They also learnt how to make kikik, Brunei’s traditional kite, while interacting and exchanging experiences with SM SMJA students. – Lyna Mohamad
