The Legislative Council (LegCo) yesterday morning received a courtesy call from Member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China and Chairman of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of the NPC Bayin Chaolu at the Legislative Council Building.
Both sides discussed the close ties of friendship between Brunei Darussalam and China, as both countries commemorate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. Also discussed were efforts to strengthen strategic cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including the economy, energy, education and tourism.
The discussions also touched on the strong relations between the LegCo and the NPC of China, including the continuation of exchanges and cooperation between the two legislative institutions.
Bayin Chaolu also shared insights into the role of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of the NPC in advancing the development of multi-ethnic communities in China.
The courtesy call is part of Bayin Chaolu and delegation’s working visit to Brunei Darussalam from September 22 to 24, 2026, aimed at strengthening relations and cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and China, including through exchanges and interactions in areas of mutual interest.
LegCo member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yusof was the head of the LegCo delegation during the courtesy call.
The Chinese delegation also included Members of the Standing Committee of the NPC of China and Vice Chairpersons of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of the NPC Bai Shangcheng and Zhou Min.
Ambassador-designate of China to Brunei Darussalam Chen Shaochun was also in attendance.
