Brunei Open Tug-of-War Championship begins » Borneo Bulletin Online
Twenty-eight teams from Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak are competing in the two-day Brunei Open Tug-of-War Championship 2026, which began on Saturday at the Tutong Community Hall Complex field.
The competition features 16 teams in the 560-kilogramme category and 12 in the 680-kilogramme category, including three visiting teams in each division from Sabah and Sarawak. Matches are being contested in a round-robin format.
Tutong Assistant District Officer Awangku Arif Anuar bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad officiated the opening ceremony.
Organised by the Tutong District Office in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 80th birthday celebration, the championship aims to preserve the traditional sport and encourage youth participation.
Local microbusinesses are also operating at the venue throughout the event, which concludes tomorrow.
