A delegation from Brunei Darussalam comprising officers from the Human Trafficking Investigation Unit, Criminal Investigation Department, Royal Brunei Police Force, representing the National Working Committee on Anti-Trafficking in Persons, attended a regional workshop in Tangerang, Indonesia.
The two-day Regional Validation Workshop on the First Draft of the ASEAN Indicators on Trafficking in Persons for Forced Criminality and Training Materials on the Application of the Non-Punishment Principle was hosted by the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights Indonesia, in collaboration with the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime and ASEAN-Australia Counter Trafficking.
The workshop formed part of ASEAN’s continued efforts to strengthen the implementation of the Non-Punishment Principle (NPP), which aims to protect victims of trafficking in persons who are compelled to engage in criminal activities.
The initiative is in line with the Bohol Work Plan 2.0 and the ASEAN Guideline on the Implementation of the Non-Punishment Principle for Protection of Victims of Trafficking in Persons.
The workshop provided a platform to review and validate the first draft of the ASEAN Indicators on Trafficking in Persons for Forced Criminality and training materials on the implementation of the NPP.
It also sought technical input from ASEAN Member States ahead of the finalisation of the documents. – James Kon
