Four participants from Brunei Darussalam departed the country on October 25, to take part in the Borneo Inter-City Al-Quran Recital Competition (MTQBB) 1448 Hijrah / 2026, held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, until October 29, 2026.
Two participants will compete in the Tilawah (Al-Quran recitation) category – Haji Hazwan bin Haji Salim and Nurhaneyah binti Nordin.
Meanwhile, two other participants will represent the Sultanate in the Hafazan (Al-Quran memorisation) category covering Juzuk 1 to 15.
They are Abdul Hadi Muaiyyad bin Haji Azrol, a first-year student pursuing the Diploma Tertinggi ‘Aliyah Qiraat at the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) and Atiqah Munirah binti Haji Muamat, a second-year student at the same institution. Both participants have prior experience in national Al-Quran memorisation competitions.
Abdul Hadi Muaiyyad competed in the semi-final round of the National Al-Quran Memorisation with Understanding Competition 1447 Hijrah / 2025 in Category D, covering Juzuk 1 to 15.
Meanwhile, Atiqah Munirah secured third place in Category C, covering Juzuk 1 to 4, during the final round of the same national competition in 1447 Hijrah / 2025.
Head of the Islamic Propagation Development Division Awang Haji Aziman bin Haji Azman, Principal of ITQSHHB Pengiran Dr Haji Amiruddin bin Pengiran Haji Damit, and Acting Director of Islamic Studies at the Department of Islamic Studies (JPI), Ministry of Religious Affairs Hajah Mariana binti Haji Jamil were present at the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell to the delegation.
The contingent is accompanied by delegation manager Haji Zunaidi bin Haji Abdul Rahman, hafazan coach Muhammad Adlan Aziz bin Haji Yussop, tilawah coach Siti Huzaimah Yadey binti Haji Rosli, and accompanying officer for the female Al-Quran reciter Hajah Nor Ismah Fatin Faridah binti Haji Rosbna.
