Brunei Darussalam will send its men’s and women’s Brunei Masters softball teams to compete in the Asian Softball Masters 2026 in Susuno City, Shizuoka, Japan from October 15-18.
A flag handover ceremony was held at the lecture hall of Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, officiated by Brunei Amateur Softball and Baseball Association (BASBA) president Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Pahlawan Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Mohd Jaafar bin Abdul Aziz.
In his speech, BASBA vice-president Major (Rtd) Wan Tambrin bin Haji Suhaili said, “Asian Softball Masters was introduced in 2013 and participated by seven countries. The competition is for veteran players aged 40 and above for the men’s category while 35 years and above for the female category. Each year, each country take turns in hosting the competition.”
He said; “This year, as Japan becomes the host for the second time, Alhamdulillah Brunei Darussalam will send a men’s team comprising 17 players and a women’s team with 16 players to compete in international level.”
Since participating in the competition, Brunei’s men’s and women’s teams have achieved several notable results. In 2019, when Brunei hosted the event, the women’s team emerged as champions, while the men’s team claimed the bronze medal.
Wan Tambrin also said BASBA was determined to deliver its best performance this year, demonstrate strong sporting spirit and work hard to achieve greater success. He said BASBA intended to submit a proposal for Brunei to host the Asian Softball Masters 2027, in line with Visit Brunei Year 2027.
Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Pahlawan Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Mohd Jaafar also presented jerseys to players from both teams.
