Brunei to deploy officers to the Philippines

Brunei Darussalam will deploy three officers from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) to serve as members of the Independent Decommissioning Body Verification, Monitoring and Assistance Team 8/2026 (IDB VMAT 8/2026) in Mindanao, the Philippines.

The Brunei Darussalam flag was handed over by Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan to Head of Delegation of the IDB VMAT 8/2026 Commander Khairul Anwar bin Abdullah, RBN during a ceremony at Bolkiah Garrison on Tuesday afternoon.

Chargé d’Affaires, ai at the Embassy of the Philippines in Brunei Darussalam Bernadette A Mendoza Bernadette A Mendoza was also present.

Since 2019, the RBAF has consistently contributed personnel to the IDB VMAT in Mindanao, the Philippines, in support of the Bangsamoro peace process through the monitoring and verification of the decommissioning of Moro Islamic
Liberation Front personnel and weapons.

The continued contribution underscores Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to supporting regional peace and stability, while further strengthening and longstanding bilateral defence ties between Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines.
