Team ‘admin:admin’ from Brunei emerged as the champion of the 11th Cyber Battle: Capture the Flag (CTF) 2026 competition, securing a score of 3,025 to walk away with the BND3,500 cash prize.
Fellow Bruneian team ‘vibe check’ claimed second place with 2,900 points to earn BND2,500, while Indonesian team ‘the hash slinging slasher’ finished in third place with 2,700 points to take home BND1,500.
The prizes were presented to the top-performing teams by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) Ir Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, the guest of honour, during the prize presentation ceremony.
Held on September 15, 2026, the annual cybersecurity competition organised by IT Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS) brought together cybersecurity talents from Brunei Darussalam and the wider ASEAN region, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, and the Philippines.
Their participation further reinforces Cyber Battle 2026 as a regional platform for fostering collaboration, developing technical capabilities, and encouraging greater engagement across the Southeast Asian cybersecurity landscape.
This year’s competition placed artificial intelligence (AI) at the centre of the challenge, reflecting the expanding role of AI in shaping modern cybersecurity environments.
Participants tackled a broad spectrum of challenges designed to examine the intersection of AI and security, testing their technical proficiency, analytical thinking, and capacity to adapt to emerging technologies.
The tasks were also structured to encourage creativity, perseverance, and diverse problem-solving methodologies when addressing complex scenarios, alongside providing valuable opportunities for enthusiasts and professionals to exchange knowledge and establish international networks. Delivering remarks prior to the prize giving, ITPSS Chief Executive Officer Azman Iskandar Ariffin highlighted the growing demand for skilled cybersecurity personnel in Brunei and underscored the critical need to reinforce the domestic talent pipeline to bridge existing skills gaps.
He affirmed the continued commitment of ITPSS towards supporting Cyber Security Brunei’s capability-building initiatives through practical learning experiences, awareness campaigns, and professional development pathways, noting that competitive events like Capture the Flag offer participants essential avenues to apply theoretical expertise to real-world challenges and support the Sultanate’s cybersecurity ecosystem.
Deputy permanent secretaries at the MTIC and the Interim Commissioner of Cyber Security Brunei, were also in attendance.
