Brunei youth to join ASEAN exchange

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), through the Department of Youth and Sports, has sent a four-member delegation comprising one officer and three youth to participate in the 2026 China-ASEAN Youth Campus and ‘Bridge of the Future’ China-ASEAN Young Leaders Capacity Building Programme, from September 17 to 24, 2026, in Nanning, Guangxi and Haikou, Hainan, China.

The delegation is led by Assistant Chief Youth and Sports Officer at the Department of Youth and Sports Shahrinah binti Haji Abdul Rahman.

Acting Deputy Director of Youth and Sports Haswandi bin Haji Osman was present to send off the delegation at the Brunei International Airport.

The eight-day programme is organised by the All-China Youth Federation in collaboration with China Youth Daily, Guangxi Youth Federation, Hainan Youth Federation and the China (Guangxi) International Youth Exchange Institute, with support from the China Young Entrepreneurs Association. It is one of the key youth exchange programmes under China-ASEAN cooperation, aimed at strengthening youth development cooperation between China and ASEAN Member States through a platform for knowledge exchange, sharing of best practices and youth capacity building.

Throughout the programme, the delegates will attend the Acceleration Week for China-ASEAN Youth Development Programmes Partnership Meeting and the China-ASEAN Youth Work Seminar.

They will also participate in thematic discussions, matchmaking and cooperation sessions, as well as field visits focusing on four key areas – green production and low-carbon technologies, artificial intelligence, culture and tourism integration, and media innovation.

This year’s programme also forms part of the activities marking the 2026 Theme Year, commemorating the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, under the theme ‘Together for Youth Development and Shared Opportunities’.

Through their participation, the delegates are expected to enhance their knowledge, skills and understanding of regional youth development, while expanding their international networks and bringing home ideas, experiences and best practices that can contribute to strengthening youth development efforts in Brunei Darussalam, in line with the aspirations of the ASEAN Community.
