Building smarter policy work through AI

The Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS) recently hosted the ‘CSPS AI Dojo – Practical AI Skills for Policy Professionals’ on August 24, 26, 27 and 28, 2026 at CSPS, bringing together staff from CSPS and Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) to strengthen practical and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in administrative and research work.

Facilitated by Dr Akira Murata, Associate Professor at Juntendo University, Tokyo, the four-day workshop featured two dedicated tracks for administrators and researchers. Through hands-on exercises, live demonstrations and discussions, participants explored practical AI applications ranging from drafting and data management to literature discovery, analysis, verification and academic writing. The workshop also emphasised responsible AI practices, including protecting sensitive information and developing strong habits for verifying AI-generated content before it is used in professional and research outputs.

Participants described the workshop as “very useful and practical”, highlighting the facilitator’s passion and knowledge, as well as the effective balance of presentations, demonstrations, practical exercises and discussions.

Participants also noted that the training materials were clear, useful and shared promptly, with practical examples that were easy to understand.

The workshop reflects CSPS continued efforts to strengthen digital capabilities and encourage the responsible adoption of emerging technologies in policy, research and administrative work.
