Call to apply knowledge gained

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), in collaboration with INTERPOL’s Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Centre (IFCACC) and Uppsala Security, conducted a three-day training course titled National Training on Virtual Asset Investigation under INTERPOL Project CAST (Crypto-focused Action on Scam Threats) from October 5-7, 2026.

Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department of the RBPF Assistant Commissioner of Police Haji Azree bin Haji Abd Manaf, the guest of honour at the closing ceremony, emphasised the importance of applying the knowledge gained to improve the quality of investigations, particularly in gathering and analysing transaction data and preserving digital evidence. He also encouraged participants to share their knowledge with their departments and units, while continuing to strengthen cooperation between the RBPF and Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB).

The course attended by 23 participants from the RBPF and BDCB aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and skills in addressing financial crimes and online scams involving virtual assets, including cryptocurrencies. Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of blockchain technology, Bitcoin transactions, and smart contracts, as well as methods for analysing and tracing virtual asset transactions.

The course also covered the use of analytical tools and practical exercises to generate intelligence to support investigations. Project CAST builds on the objectives of Project RESCUE in enhancing INTERPOL member countries’ capabilities to combat cyber-enabled fraud, particularly crimes involving virtual assets. IFCACC Criminal Intelligence Officer Muhammad Arrafi bin Ali and Uppsala Security Head of Business Development Ipsita Das were also in attendance.

The participation of both institutions provided opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and experience, while reinforcing working relationships in addressing financial crimes involving virtual assets.
