Chinese New Year Celebration

The Tiong Hwa community across the country today celebrated the Chinese New Year with great enthusiasm, goodwill and harmony. The enthusiasm proves unity in diversity, where shared, enthusiastic participation in community life transcends differences in race, religion and culture to foster peace.

In Belait District, the Chinese New Year celebration was also held. One of the traditional practices of the Tiong Hwa community is the giving of red envelope or ang pow, typically given to children.

The community in Temburong District also did not miss out on holding open house visits at several Chinese community residences. Various traditional dishes and local delicacies were served during the open house as a symbol of sharing sustenance and closeness. Such celebration is truly a manifestation of harmony in line with values of respect and community life.
