Civil servants gain economic policy insights

Participants of the 2026 Civil Service Leadership Pipeline (CSLP) programmes on Saturday gained first-hand perspectives on current economic developments, national economic policy priorities and ongoing efforts to strengthen economic growth and competitiveness in Brunei Darussalam at the Executive Dialogue Session organised by Civil Service Institute (IPA), Prime Minister’s Office.

The dialogue at IPA was delivered by Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin.

The session brought together 69 participants, comprising 25 participants from the Executive Development Programme for Senior Government Officers (EDPSGO-33), 23 participants from the Executive Development Programme for Middle Management Officers (EDPMMO-37), and 21 participants from the Young Executive Programme (YEP-11).

During the session, the minister shared insights on a range of issues, including the role of trade and industry in driving economic growth, the importance of enhancing national competitiveness, and efforts to strengthen the business and investment ecosystem.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of empowering local enterprises, creating a more conducive environment for private-sector growth, and identifying new opportunities for the development and diversification of the national economy.

The interactive session also provided participants with an opportunity to raise questions and exchange views on the challenges and opportunities facing Brunei Darussalam amid an increasingly dynamic economic landscape.

The sharing enhanced the participants’ understanding of the linkages between policy, economic development and public service delivery. Through the session, CSLP participants, as emerging leaders in the public service, were encouraged to connect the leadership and management perspectives gained through their programmes with the wider national development priorities.

The session also sought to encourage more strategic, forward-looking and responsive leadership among public officers in supporting national aspirations and responding effectively to the evolving needs of the people and society.
