Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah (MD) welcomed a delegation from the Korean Youth Work Agency (KYWA), Republic of Korea, as part of the 2026 Global Competency Enhancement: Project for Youth Leaders – ‘K-Youth Together with Brunei’ programme.
Held at the college’s Student Learning and Service Centre, the visit brought together representatives from KYWA and MD students for an afternoon of cultural exchange and interactive activities aimed at strengthening cross-cultural understanding, youth engagement, and global communication.
The Korean delegation was led by Head of Delegation and Director of the Korean Youth Work Agency Han Shinhee and comprised youth leaders and professionals from the Republic of Korea.
The delegation was welcomed by Principal of MD Dayangku Hajah Nooramaliatifah binti Pengiran Haji Ahmad, alongside the college’s deputy principals, members of the senior management team, teachers, students, and officers from the Department of Schools under the Ministry of Education.
The programme commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a welcoming address by the principal and a traditional Gulintangan performance. The principal, in her welcoming address, expressed her pleasure and honour in receiving the delegation, describing the visit as a meaningful opportunity for both sides to learn from one another, share experiences, and strengthen friendship and collaboration between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Korea.
A key highlight of the visit was the opportunity for MD students to participate directly in interactive Korean youth activities.
During the ‘Challenge! I Am an Idol Too’ segment, students experienced elements of K-pop idol and fandom culture through collaborative team-based activities, developing group names and chants, designing mini banners, and creating unique group identities to foster creativity, teamwork, and communication.
The cultural exchange was further enriched through a Brunei food showcase and traditional cultural activities, providing the visiting delegation with firsthand exposure to Bruneian culture whilst engaging with students and faculty members.
Students also participated in a ‘Making My Own Eco-Goods’ workshop, designing personalised eco-friendly items inspired by Korean fandom culture that blended creative expression with an introduction to sustainable environmental practices.
The programme forms part of KYWA’s broader efforts to promote international youth exchange and provide cross-cultural learning opportunities for young leaders, while strengthening friendly bilateral ties between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Korea.
