The Public Works Department (JKR) assures the public that discoloured water currently affecting several areas in the Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts is not harmful to health, although consumers are advised to boil the water before drinking or using it to prepare food as a precaution.
JKR said the discolouration is linked to the quality of raw water from the Tutong River, which presently contains high levels of organic matter and has taken on a dark appearance.
The condition has affected the water treatment process, resulting in changes to the visual quality of treated water supplied to consumers. The department stressed that the issue concerns the colour of the water rather than its safety.
The Department of Water Services under JKR has implemented its standard operating procedures to address the situation, including monitoring the quality of raw water from the Tutong River and carrying out measures to restore the supply of clean water.
Flushing works have also been conducted as an immediate measure, with efforts under way to return water conditions to normal as soon as possible.
The public is urged to use water prudently while recovery efforts continue.
