Commitment to building inclusive future for the nation showcased

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam Berhad (BIBD) joined the nation in celebrating His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 80th Birthday, through its participation in the community get-together ceremony held in the Brunei-Muara District.

As part of the celebrations, BIBD showcased a range of initiatives reflecting its commitment to supporting the nation’s development through community empowerment, human capital development, economic inclusion and environmental stewardship.

These efforts underscore the bank’s role as a Partner in Progress and its continued support for the aspirations of Brunei Vision 2035.

Leading the BIBD delegation was Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Haji Mohammad Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah, alongside members of the group’s senior management, officers and staff.

Among the highlights was Projek Teduh, a community-driven housing initiative launched in October 2025 to support vulnerable families through the rebuilding and repair of homes.

More than providing physical shelter, the programme helps restore dignity, security and stability, enabling families to live in a safe and conducive environment from which they can rebuild their lives and pursue a brighter future.

Funded through BIBD’s business zakat and implemented in close partnership with government agencies, Projek Teduh reflects a shared commitment to improving the quality of life of those most in need and ensuring that no member of the community is left behind. Also featured was Projek SABIL, BIBD’s Ramadhan welfare initiative organised in collaboration with the Prisons Department and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The programme serves as a platform for individuals, organisations and strategic partners to contribute through sedekah, infaq and charitable giving, extending support to low-income families, orphans, converts, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

Beyond providing food and essential supplies, Projek SABIL fosters a spirit of compassion, solidarity and shared responsibility by bringing communities together in the true spirit of giving.

It also promotes meaningful volunteerism by engaging BIBD employees alongside youth from non-governmental organisations and local universities, empowering them to contribute actively to community welfare while cultivating leadership, empathy and social responsibility.

Recognising that education is a key enabler of social mobility and national development, BIBD highlighted its flagship CSR programme, BIBD Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspiring Future (ALAF), which has supported students from underprivileged backgrounds since 2013.

Through a holistic support system encompassing educational necessities, financial assistance, mentorship and personal development, ALAF helps remove barriers to learning and creates pathways to higher education and lifelong success.

Aligned with the aspirations of Brunei Vision 2035 to develop a well-educated, highly skilled and accomplished nation, the programme invests in the potential of young Bruneians, equipping them with the knowledge, values and opportunities needed to contribute meaningfully to the country’s socio-economic development.

Complementing this effort was BIBD’s support for Smart Classroom facilities at Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

By providing access to interactive and technology-enabled learning environments, the initiative equips students with critical thinking, collaboration and digital skills needed to thrive in an increasingly knowledge-based economy.

BIBD also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), recognising their vital role in driving economic growth, generating employment opportunities and advancing economic diversification in Brunei Darussalam.

Through a comprehensive ecosystem of financing solutions, business advisory services, digital banking capabilities and strategic partnerships, including collaborations with the Brunei Economic Development Board, BIBD continues to empower entrepreneurs to start, sustain and scale their businesses, contributing to a more resilient and inclusive economy.

Complementing its efforts in education, community development and entrepreneurship, BIBD also highlighted initiatives that underscore its commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Through programmes that support rehabilitation, social empowerment and environmental stewardship, the bank continues to contribute towards building resilient communities and a more sustainable Brunei Darussalam.

Among these was Projek Rumah Tenunan, a collaborative initiative between BIBD and the Prisons Department aimed at empowering female inmates through skills development and economic participation.

The programme provides participants with opportunities to learn and preserve Brunei Darussalam’s traditional weaving heritage while acquiring practical skills that can support their reintegration into society upon release.

Rounding out the showcase was BIBD’s commitment to environmental sustainability through its Sustainability Framework and Projek Alam Mampan.

Implemented in collaboration with government agencies, non-governmental organisations, corporate partners and local communities, the programme focuses on protecting and preserving Brunei Darussalam’s natural ecosystems while promoting greater environmental awareness.
