Community in motion

2026 UOB Brunei Heartbeat Run supports SMARTER Brunei for an inclusive future

UOB Brunei employees rallied together in support of the annual UOB Heartbeat Run, held at Jalan Menteri Besar Recreational Park reinforcing the Bank’s culture of volunteerism and community engagement. A total of BND2,160.00 was raised under the UOB Heartbeat Fund; through their participation, employees contributed towards fundraising efforts that will help empower children and families in need, underscoring the belief that every contribution, regardless of size, can create a positive and lasting impact.

The proceeds will be channelled to SMARTER Brunei, a local beneficiary dedicated to supporting children with autism and their families. Guided by its mission to support and empower individuals with autism and their families, SMARTER Brunei provides vital education, skills development, training, and employment pathways. SMARTER Brunei strives to create an inclusive society where individuals with autism can thrive and reach their full potential. The donation was presented by Country Manager of UOB Brunei Branch Tang Wan Ing to Vice Treasurer of SMARTER Brunei Haji Suhaili bin Haji Hamid during the event.

The funds are expected to benefit more than 100 children, youths and their families.

SMARTER Brunei expressed gratitude for UOB Brunei’s longstanding support and partnership, noting that the Bank’s continued commitment to giving back to the community has positively impacted the lives of many children with autism and their families. The organisation added that such contributions play an important role in advancing its mission of fostering inclusion and empowerment.

The UOB Global Heartbeat Run is an annual flagship volunteering and fundraising programme held globally across 18 markets where UOB has a presence.

Aside from Brunei, the physical UOB Heartbeat Run were held in the Bank’s other key regional markets of Singapore, Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia in the coming months. The amount raised will benefit 28 charities globally.

Country Manager of UOB Brunei Branch Tang Wan Ing said, “UOB’s Heartbeat Run has brought colleagues together since 2007 in support of a shared purpose: giving back to the community.” She also highlighted that every contribution, whether through time, participation or donations, makes a meaningful difference, as no effort is too small. She expressed gratitude to all employees for coming together with one heart and one purpose and reaffirmed that supporting the community is both a responsibility UOB carries with humility and a privilege the Bank is honoured to uphold.

Since 2007, the programme has raised more than SGD4 million to help improve the lives of communities in need and support causes that are aligned to the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility focus areas of education, children and art.
