A local company and two individuals were issued compound fines by enforcement personnel from the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department for violating Section 12(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Chapter 30, during Bersih Operation 09/2026 conducted across several areas under municipal jurisdiction.
The company was levied a BND500 compound fine under Section 12(1)(a) for leaving used plastic pipes on the premises behind a commercial building in Batu Bersurat.
Meanwhile, an individual was issued a BND300 compound fine under Section 12(1)(e) for disposing of cigarette ash and butts in the area behind a commercial building in Kampong Kiarong. A second individual was also issued a BND300 compound fine under the same section for disposing of cigarette ash and butts in the same vicinity.
The Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department reminded the public, commercial entities, and business premises owners that maintaining environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
Under Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, strict legal action may be pursued against offenders, carrying a maximum penalty upon conviction of a BND30,000 fine, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both.
Members of the public and commercial operators are advised against disposing of, dumping, or leaving any rubbish or commercial waste in public spaces.
