Company fined BND1,000 for dumping rubbish in Tutong

A contractor company was recently issued a compound fine of BND1,000 by personnel of the Law Enforcement Unit of the Tutong District Office for violating the Miscellaneous Offences Act Chapter 30, Section 12(1)(a) for leaving behind rubbish at Telisai Market Stalls Area in Tutong District.

The offender was given seven days to settle the compound fine, after which the failure to pay may result in the company being prosecuted in court. Upon conviction, the offender may face a fine not less than BND2,000 and not exceeding BND10,000.

For a second or subsequent offence, the penalty increases to not less than BND10,000 and not exceeding BND30,000, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.

The public, construction companies and owners of commercial premises were reminded to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings and not to dispose rubbish in public areas.
