The Brunei-Muara District Office, through its Licensing and Enforcement Division, issued a BND2,000 compound fine to a contractor for an offence involving illegal dumping at the Sibongkok Agricultural Development Area (KKP) in Batong.

The enforcement action was carried out following a public complaint received by the Licensing and Enforcement Division regarding the disposal of rubbish on land within the Sibongkok KKP area.

An investigation by the Brunei – Muara District Office found that the company had committed an offence under Section 12(1)(f)(ii) of the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30. The company was instructed to settle it within seven days. The failure to pay the compound within the stipulated period will result in the case being referred to court under the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30.

Upon conviction, the offence carries a maximum penalty of BND30,000 for a company, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.

The Brunei-Muara District Office expressed its appreciation to the public and others who have  provided information concerning illegal dumping activities. The department urged the public to report any unlawful dumping activities by providing the location address together with photographs via WhatsApp at 8321581.
